Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) Adpative Programming
Tualatin Hills Park & Recreation District (THPRD) is making it easier than ever for people of all abilities to get active, build friendships, and have fun throughout Spring and Summer 2026. Their Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation programs are designed for children, teens, and adults with developmental, learning, and physical disabilities, as well as those with mental health challenges, and focus on creating welcoming spaces where everyone belongs.
What Is Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation at THPRD?
THPRD’s Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation services are built around a simple but powerful idea: everyone deserves access to high-quality recreation experiences that match their interests and needs. Programs are thoughtfully designed to support participants who may need additional assistance, alternative formats, or tailored environments to fully take part.
These offerings include structured classes, social programs, community outings, and adaptive sports and fitness options. Many activities emphasize choice, independence, and social connection so that participants not only have fun, but also gain confidence and life skills.
Who These Programs Serve
Adaptive & Inclusive Recreation at THPRD is intended for people with:
Developmental and intellectual disabilities
Learning disabilities
Physical disabilities and mobility differences
Mental health-related needs
Programs are available for youth, teens, and adults, with options for both individuals who are new to recreation and those who are looking to expand their skills or try something different. Families and caregivers are welcomed as partners in the process, helping find the right program fit and needed supports.

Summer options may include adaptive and inclusive classes, social opportunities, and camps, along with supports at other district programs through inclusion services. These activities give participants a chance to enjoy the outdoors, stay active between school years, and connect with peers in supportive, structured settings.
Inclusion Services and Supports
In addition to dedicated adaptive programs, THPRD offers inclusion services so that participants with disabilities can join many of the district’s general recreation offerings with appropriate support. Through this service, families can request reasonable accommodations such as extra staff assistance, adapted equipment, or program modifications to help ensure a successful experience.
Trained staff collaborate with participants and caregivers to understand needs, plan supports, and check in throughout the season. The goal is to remove barriers to participation while preserving the dignity, independence, and choices of each person.
